Question by b1ueyes56: I would like to know if anyone knows what a renters rights our concerning a flood from plumbing in a rental ho
We live in SM Calif and recently we had a flood in the middle of the night due to plumbing problems in a house we were renting. The entire house was flooded and we had to get up and leave in the middle of the night. The next day restoration people had us move everything we owned with out even boxing it up into our garage all in one day. Since it was the first of the month the landload gave us back our rent but told us since we didn’t have any rental insurance anything that was ruined was our responsibility. Since then we have been waiting for them to restore the house for six months now. What I want to know is what is our rights in this matter? This has been such a hardship on our family having to live from pillar to post till they finish with this house.

Renters insurance would have covered all your belongings as well as alternate housing (motel/hotel) until the house was habitable. Rights? You had the right to obtain insurance.
