State of Indiana Renters’ rights & owners responsibilities…?
Question by Suicide Blonde: State of Indiana Renters’ rights & owners responsibilities…?
I have a newspaper article saying that if a person rents out a house they must provide working smoke alarms.1st offense of not doing so is a $ 1000.00 fine.Does anyone know if this is indeed true? This would be concerning a free-standing home-not an apt.

No one will be fined unless they fail to install within 30 days of notification of an issue.
But, other then that misunderstanding, yes this is true. All rentals must have a working smoke alarm. You cna get them for about 7 bucks, battery included.

Renters Rights

My roomate and I were recently attacked by BATS in our house. Our landlord called people to come and fix the problem. In doing this the people said there is more damage to our house ex: new roof, few siding, and gutters. We both have small children. Because of the situation we were not able to stay in our house since the first of this month even though we paid rent. are we entitled to remeberrssed for the days we couldnt stay or can we deduct from next months rent. We filed a complaint to get the house inspected to make sure its up to code. If inspection proves its not up to code, do we have the right to cancel our lease? And legally would we be able to recieve our security deposit back if we were to leave the house in the condition it was in when we rented it? please send me an email as soon as possible. Thank you
